Our Story

“We” have been active since Anna Elisabeth Bach’s first visit to Nepal in 1998. At first it was a “private project” with medical care etc. for the Sangye Choe Ling Gompa, the monastery of the Buddhist master Lopoen Tsechu Rinpoche, in Kimdol-Swoyambhu at the Swoyambhu Stupa in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal and to ensure that two girls could receive an education. The activities became “bigger”, especially in 2006 with the planning to build the Samar Gompa (Buddhist monastery) in the former kingdom of Lo, called Upper Mustang, in the Nepalese Himalayas. The association structure was set up with close friends and the Himalaya Project was founded in Germany.

In order to give our activities an official framework, Anna Elisabeth Bach founded the non-profit organization “Himalaya Project” on November 19, 2006. In the name of the organization, we now carry out projects in Nepal or support projects that, in our opinion, deserve the greatest possible support.

Our Himalaya project has been supported by the Sowa Rigpa Foundation in Boppard am Rhein/Germany since 2023,

and has been included in the foundation’s activities. www.sowa-rigpa.org

Introduction

Himalaya Project Germany is a non-political organization that has been supporting people in remote areas of the Nepal Himalayas through education, medical care and strengthening their Buddhist culture since 2006.

Sponsorships for children and young people – meaningful and effective

Many families in the remote areas of Nepal – Lower Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Upper Mustang, Pokhara and the Kathmandu Valley – are not financially able to provide their children with an education, food and medical care. The sponsorships https://himalayaprojekt.net/sponsorships/ secure a basis for the future for children from difficult backgrounds. Monastery schools in particular take in these girls and boys and give them a new, loving home until they complete their education. All donations to the Himalaya Project directly enable the construction, maintenance and operation of schools, the annual free medical camp, the renovation of monastery schools, Buddhist cultural sites, stupas, etc. From donation to implementation under the leadership of our project partner https://www.nhsf.org.np/  in Nepal, the foundation pools the specific needs and guarantees implementation through appropriate projects with the local communities. The construction and renovation projects are motivated by the local people and implemented promptly as soon as the required donation amount has been collected. Our non-profit organization has been registered with the Koblenz District Court since July 24, 2006 under the number VR20058.

Nepal Himalaya Sherpa Foundation

The Nepal Himalaya Sherpa Foundation (NSHF) is a Nepalese non-profit foundation for rural and remote areas in the Himalayan regions of Nepal such as Okhaldunga, Solukhumbu, Dolkha, Upper Mustang and Kanchenjunga. Children are the future backbone of every society. In these regions, many of them lack the most necessary financial resources for education, health and the preservation of their culture. The NSHF https://www.nhsf.org.np/ is therefore responsible for maintaining and expanding school education there and preserving the population’s millennia-old Himalayan culture. By arranging sponsorships, the school education, nutrition and medicine of over 200 children have already been secured.
