Renovation of Lo Gekar – Upper Mustang – Nepal Himalaya
This place was founded by the Buddhist teacher Padmasambhava in the 9th century on his way to Tibet. It is one of the most important Buddhist meditation places in the Himalayas and of great importance for Tibetan Buddhism.
The complex used to consist of a nine-story building. Before the renovation began, however, only the ground floor and one floor remained. In 2008, we were able to have the paneling for the interior of the Buddhist meditation place (Tibetan: Gompa) made in a carpenter’s workshop in Boudha/Kathmandu. A plug-in system was chosen to simplify transport to Upper Mustang. Wood to support the walls was ordered and installed in Tibet. The interior of the Gompa was fitted with an altar paneling and the ceiling structure was renewed. This work was successfully completed in the summer of 2009.
Thanks to the support, this more than 1200 year old Buddhist cultural monument could be preserved.
